People Management for Newly Appointed Registered Managers: 11 December 2026
Practical People Management Skills for Managers Stepping into a Registered Manager Role
Service Description
Becoming a Registered Manager brings significant responsibility for both the quality of the service and the people who deliver care.
This practical course helps newly appointed Registered Managers develop the confidence and skills to lead teams, manage performance and conduct, support staff wellbeing, handle employee relations issues and build a positive, accountable workplace culture.
Designed specifically for CQC-registered services, the course connects effective people management with safe, effective and well-led care.
What will the course cover?
- Leading people effectively – establishing authority, professional boundaries, clear expectations and consistent management practices
- Workplace culture – creating respectful, supportive and accountable teams
- Performance and conduct – managing underperformance, behavioural concerns and difficult conversations
- Staffing and competence – supervision, appraisal, development and staff suitability
- Employee relations – managing conflict, grievances, complaints and other workplace issues
- Staff wellbeing – supporting staff while maintaining management boundaries
- Speaking up and concerns – encouraging openness and a positive safety culture
- Governance and accountability – records, learning from incidents, and escalation
The emphasis is on applying these requirements to everyday people-management practice, rather than simply learning the regulations.
